The Plot to Blog About The Plot to Overthrow Christmas

Bill Crider e-mailed me a link to a wonderful piece written by Lou Antonelli (This Way to Texas) about the classic old-time radio play The Plot to Overthrow Christmas—written by Norman Corwin, who’s still taking a licking and keeping on ticking at the ripe ol’ of 98. Well worth a read.

Do you remember the 1970s PBS special about the recreation of Corwin's PLOT? I'm pretty sure Ed Asner was Santa Claus. It was shown in an hour timeslot and the fascinating part was the first half hour, where they showed the cast rehearsing (with Corwin, I believe) and how the sound effects would be done. There's something I'd love to have a copy of!

I've heard of this special...it came out in 1972, if my memory serves me correct...but I'm sure I've never seen it. I'm curious, too, as to whether a copy might be procured.
