The gun that won the West

Sixty years ago on this date, the classic Western Winchester ’73 (1950) was released to theaters. For those of you who are new to the blog, this film is one of my favorite silver screen oaters—and it holds a particularly special distinction of being one of those rare films that, should I come across it while channel-surfing, I have to sit and watch to the very end.

When Ed Copeland asked for a volunteer to commemorate its anniversary, I practically pushed people to the side to be the one to take the assignment. You can read about it at his always engrossing weblog, Edward Copeland on Film.
