Blogathon announcements

Yeah, I feel kind of chintzy for recycling a pair of past Edward Copeland essays for my first two entries in the John Huston Blogathon being conducted from August 5-12 and sponsored by Icebox Movies…but what are you going to do? The date kind of crept up on me and it was either repost or sit out the first two rounds. I do have a couple of essays to contribute while Hustonthon* is still in full bloom…so tune in this weekend for the results.

Kate Gabrielle at Silents and Talkies is throwing a blogathon shindig starting next week—August 16th, to be exact—in conjunction with The Large Association of Movie Blogs that will focus on movies that you watched during summer vacations of long ago…when your kid-like existence was spent either scarfing down “buttered” popcorn at the googolplex or vegging out in front of the TV, getting in touch with your inner coach potato. The Summer Movie Blogathon is a three-day event only, and will run into August 18…with the entries to be posted at the LAMB. So if you want to contribute, drop the Katester a line at; the absolute deadline for submissions is August 17th. (I plan to participate—I’m just mulling over what to write about, which is nothing new around here.)

Tony Dayoub at Cinema Viewfinder also has a blogathon in the hopper that will concentrate on the films and works of director David Cronenberg…I e-mailed Tony and explained that while Cronenberg’s oeuvre is a bit out of my bailiwick I do have a DVD copy of A History of Violence (2005) lying around Rancho Yesteryear that I’ve been meaning to revisit, so I might run that up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. (I’m finding it hard to resist the temptation of recycling a piece I wrote on Eastern Promises [2007] a goodly while back.) It’s either that or gamble on a Cronenberg flick showing up on one of the Demand channels provided by CharredHer. But I’m sure I’ll come up with something—after all, Cronenbergathon** won’t start until September 6 (and runs until September 12). Viewfinder had a tremendous success with last year’s Brian De Palma blogathon…which I unfortunately found out about too late to kick something in.

*Hey—Stacia’s not the only one who can make up words…

**Kind of hard to stop once you get going…

When you forget words as often as I do, making words up is just good sense. (Seriously, I have what I euphemistically refer to as 'noun trouble'. It's not strictly aphasia, but it's bad enough that I'm surprised I don't make more errors on my blog.)

I'm still plodding along on the Summer blogathon, but I hope to do the Cronenberg one as well.
