Rain delay

Well, my intentions of delving into Chapter 8 of the edge-of-your-seat Adventures of Sir Galahad yesterday were sidetracked yesterday to cataclysmic shifts in my sleep schedule.  Friday night, I was having difficulty keeping my eyes open and so I went back to my room and lay down on the bed a little after eight…and woke up around 11:30pm.  And that was pretty much it as far as sleeping for the rest of the night went; I ended up watching a few of the talking heads shows and working on a couple of e-mails for friends.  Saturday morning I ran a few errands with mi madre, stopping by both our banks (we had deposits) and running by MacDonald’s for a milkshake.  (We used up a tank of gas waiting behind stupid people at the bank drive-thrus, which irritated Mom to no end.  Honest to my grandma, at one point she yelled: “Why do people have to aggravate me so?!!”)

Back at the house I ate some lunch, and then decided I’d try to get in a quick nap…that lasted from 1-6pm.  By the time I woke up, I had that achy I’m-getting-a-cold feeling, and I didn’t eat much dinner.  The ‘rents and I started to watch The Blob (1958) on TCM on Demand, but Mom got up in the middle of it, muttering “This movie is awful.”  After Blob, I moseyed hack to the bedroom…and hit the bed again.  I didn’t wake up until 3:30am, and that’s only because a princess awakened me with a kiss.  (I have no idea how she got into the house, btw.)

So now I’m trying to tell myself I’m awake, and it’s not easy because Me-TV is showing an episode of Burke’s Law that was written by Harlan Ellison and features Telly Savalas sleeping on a bed of nails (!).  If I can, I will try to get chapter 8 of Galahad finished today…if not, I’ll reschedule it for next Saturday.  Pleasant dreams!

  1. Ivan, you have my sympathy. Trying to maintain my own serial coverage (which you partially inspired) around all this Real Life nonsense has been a major juggling act lately. Movie blogging is clearly not for sissies.

Hee hee, I put it slightly differently when reacting to what I imagine to be the same situation:

"What, are you people actually trying to piss me off?"

  3. Ivan, it sounds like an unpleasant two-day span...but the upside is that BURKE'S LAW episode (which sounds rather intriguing). And think, he later became a secret agent!

  4. I am always in awe of the incredibly creative excuses you have for not doing things. But on a more sympathetic note, you must have been fighting off a really bad bug to need all that sleep -- hope you are feeling better. I've been sick as a dog myself ... so sick I actually am beginning to look like a neglected mutt.

  5. Gosh, it's sounding sort of serious. Hope you recover soon, Ivan, but by all means take your time in doing so.

Camelot and Mayberry aren't going anywhere, after all, and like myself, will await patiently.

Given all the sleeping, I'm tempted to make a joke about adult onset mononucleosis, but lucky for you, I've resisted the impulse.

In any case, get well soon.

  6. ahem...WAITING! Oh, wait...all excuses are valid in blogville.

    Never mind.

    As you were.

Back to Telly on the telly.
