My niece Rachel—you’ve heard me casually mention her on the
blog—turns the big one-two today, and the ‘rents and I were quite fortunate
that she was able to mark such an auspicious birthday occasion (she shares
birthdays with the likes of William Powell, Clara Bow, Thelma Todd and Budd
Boetticher—very darn extraordinary!) with us here at Rancho Yesteryear. She opened her gifts yesterday because she
and her folks are leaving today (they’re going to spend the week luxuriating at
Tybee Island, a stone’s throw from our old Savannah stomping grounds) and I don’t
mind telling you she made out with some very impressive swag. (Most of it of the One Direction variety,
which I have been told by Rach is a popular music group. They even have their own duct tape.)
Because there was much merriment and One Directioning
yesterday, I decided to postpone this week’s Doris Day(s)…and while I
know many of you are disappointed, you shouldn’t be—because this is a terrible
episode. There’s plenty on the Thrilling Days of Yesteryear agenda this
week—much Blogathon contributions and the like—so we will return to normal
blogging as soon as our company is on its way.
Happy Birthday, Rachel! You'll turn your uncle Ivan into a Directioner yet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful girl! 12 is a great age if you can stand the pain ... I bet she's tickled to be spotlighted on your blog...
